SBA- 3RD AND 4TH GRADE PARENTS

Here is the entire presentation and ways to help your scholar prepare...

We wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for your participation in our SBA meeting this morning. Your involvement and dedication play a crucial role in the academic success of our students, and we are grateful to have such supportive parents in our community. During our meeting, we discussed essential aspects of the assessment process, including strategies to support your child and resources available to help them succeed. We understand that navigating these assessments can be challenging, and we are committed to providing you with the tools and information you need. To that end, we have included the entire presentation from this morning's meeting, which covers all the essential points and strategies we discussed. Additionally, we've prepared some practice items tailored to help your child prepare for the actual assessment. This practice work is designed to reinforce their understanding and boost their confidence as they approach their exams. To access the practice items, click the link provided and then click the green "Sign In" button at the bottom. This will take you directly to the resources.

Warm regards, Principal Jamie S. Baker

Celebrating Success: A Memorable Attendance Breakfast

 IMG_1338.JPG

I'm thrilled to share a recent highlight from our school community! On March 28th, we ended the week on an incredibly positive note with our much-anticipated Attendance Breakfast. Nearly 200 families joined us, making the event a tremendous success and a reflection of the strong bonds within our school community.

The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and plenty of delicious food! Our guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast spread, and it was wonderful to see families connecting and sharing moments together. The food and the company made the event truly special.

We also achieved a new milestone—completing the highest number of family surveys to date! This accomplishment speaks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our families, staff, and students. It’s a powerful reminder that small achievements can create a ripple effect, leading to larger victories that strengthen our school culture.

Events like this reinforce the importance of building connections and fostering open communication. Thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and made this event unforgettable. Let’s continue working together to make every moment count!

First Graders Dance into New Adventures with New Haven Ballet At Barack Obama Magnet University School

IMG 7344 1IMG 7345 1

We believe in nurturing creativity and imagination in students from an early age. That's why we partnered with the renowned New Haven Ballet to provide our first graders with an unforgettable artistic experience. For the past few weeks, our students have been stepping, twirling, and leaping under the guidance of a trained ballet professional, discovering the joy and discipline of dance. The program began with introducing our young learners to the fundamental principles of ballet, emphasizing the importance of posture, balance, and coordination. The New Haven Ballet instructor brings years of experience and a unique ability to connect with children, making the basics of ballet not only accessible but exhilarating. Every lesson is designed to accommodate all levels, focusing on developing the physical and cognitive skills that come through dance. Through the program, students learn: - Basic ballet terminology and positions - Simple routines that encourage memory and sequencing - The importance of teamwork and synchronization - Physical coordination and flexibility As they glide across the classroom, these young dancers are building more than just artistic skills—they're gaining confidence and learning to work together in harmony, valuable skills that transcend beyond the dance floor. At Obama, we’re proud to offer such enriched extracurricular programs that broaden our students' experiences and enhance their development. Dance is just the beginning; through partnerships like these, the possibilities are truly endless. Stay tuned for more stories about how our students are discovering their passions through incredible programs like this one!

Attendance Is Important!

Greetings families!

The State of Connecticut and New Haven Public Schools calculate chronic absences based on excused and unexcused absences and suspension days.

A student is considered chronically absent when he or she misses 10 percent of schooling
throughout the year—around two days per month, totaling 18+ days.

Please take a moment to view the Parent Attendance Tracker for our 2024-2025 school year using the link below.
